Welcome!

Good Morning everyone! How are you doing today? I started this as a way to process some issues that have been slowly coming to the surface. If this speaks to you in any way, it would be my privilege to hear from you.

My name is David A. Kitchens. I was born on December 3, 1964. For those born in December, the holidays of this month tend to overshadow your birthday. Growing up in a traditional Christian Family, it goes without saying that Christmas played a huge role. One of the "traditions" that I grew up hating was that of Christmas.

You see when my birthday came around, it never seemed to fail that "my birthday" would be conveniently forgotten. So the day of the "event" suddenly it would become apparent that I had been overlooked. To remedy the situation, my parents would suggest I open one of my "Christmas" presents. As time went on, my sisters would complain about that. So, to remedy that situation, my parents instituted a "tradition" where "everyone" opened an early "Christmas" present on "my birthday". The whole idea of "unfairness" was driven deep into my psyche.

To this day, I cannot stand "Christmas" but I also know that not everyone will agree with me on this issue. Celebrate it if your must, but leave those who disagree with the whole notion out of it. There are some "traditions" that the majority may love, but there will be those in the "minority" that see these traditions for what they truly represent. I would love to hear your thoughts on this matter. I ask that you keep in mind the following suggestions:

  • Keep your comments clean
  • Keep your comments respectful

Sincerely,

David A. Kitchens, Editor
