Country Roads!

One of the things I love to do is to go exploring. I love going down dirt roads. I like finding things that people seem to have forgotten about. One such case is this gem of a find in Hardeman County of North Central Texas.

As I was exploring this particular area, a farmer in an old dusty pickup truck stopped to see what I was doing. I introduced myself and told this Old Farmer what my intention was.

As we got to talking, he made it clear that his family was one of the first ones to settle this part of Texas when it was still Indian Country.

This Farmer got to talking about his homestead pictured here. He went on to say that his family had been through several tornadoes that had ripped through this area since before the 1900's. Each time they had built back.

It is my hope that you find something of value in this post. If you have, please let me know. Your comments are more than welcome.

Sincerely,

David A. Kitchens

By the Still Waters

This picture reminds me of a time my wife and I were on vacation. We were down near San Antonio, Texas. Barbie and I along with a friend had decided to go tubing down a river.

By all rights, this company should have waited a little longer before sending customers down this river. The reason was that it had just finished raining a couple of days prior. The runoff was just getting to the river. That being said this river was at flood stage.

I had gotten myself into some trouble and found myself without an inner tube. Now I am in a raging river without any means of keeping myself afloat. Barbie, understandably, was very worried. My only option at this point was to hang on to her inner tube and try to make back.

After about 10 minutes of this, we noticed my inner resting in a shallow and small bay along this river. It resembled much like the photo above. It was at this moment Psalms 23 came to mind.

Quartz Mountain

I started out on this easy trail. Be sure to bring plenty of water with you!
This was from a recent camping trip I took to Quartz Mountain near Blair, Oklahoma
The people in the boat knew the advantages of getting away where there were less people around.

Amateur Photographer

I like to take photographs. I often travel the back roads and other lesser travelled road ways, etc. I have found that a lot of those free photo's you find available didn't quite make it as far as I was concerned.

My solution was to go find something that spoke to me and to take a photograph of it. It is these photo's I am wishing to sell.

If you like some of the photo's you find here that is great. Your comments are more than welcomed. Please keep any constructive criticism respectful. If you would like to purchase a photo, then I can help you. Please send me an email stating the following information:

  • The Picture wanted
  • The size picture you want

After this I will send you the price. After all the price depends upon the size you want. If this is agreeable, then we can discuss delivery options.

Sincerely,

Welcome!

Good Morning everyone! How are you doing today? I started this as a way to process some issues that have been slowly coming to the surface. If this speaks to you in any way, it would be my privilege to hear from you.

My name is David A. Kitchens. I was born on December 3, 1964. For those born in December, the holidays of this month tend to overshadow your birthday. Growing up in a traditional Christian Family, it goes without saying that Christmas played a huge role. One of the "traditions" that I grew up hating was that of Christmas.

You see when my birthday came around, it never seemed to fail that "my birthday" would be conveniently forgotten. So the day of the "event" suddenly it would become apparent that I had been overlooked. To remedy the situation, my parents would suggest I open one of my "Christmas" presents. As time went on, my sisters would complain about that. So, to remedy that situation, my parents instituted a "tradition" where "everyone" opened an early "Christmas" present on "my birthday". The whole idea of "unfairness" was driven deep into my psyche.

To this day, I cannot stand "Christmas" but I also know that not everyone will agree with me on this issue. Celebrate it if your must, but leave those who disagree with the whole notion out of it. There are some "traditions" that the majority may love, but there will be those in the "minority" that see these traditions for what they truly represent. I would love to hear your thoughts on this matter. I ask that you keep in mind the following suggestions:

  • Keep your comments clean
  • Keep your comments respectful

Sincerely,

David A. Kitchens, Editor
